Corrales Holiday Art Fest/Starving Artist Sale 2015 Was a Great Success!

Scrap metal clock Adobe Dragon Design StudioAnd so it ends…the last arts/crafts show of 2015 for Adobe Dragon Studio! With a bang, not a whimper. (Well, there was some whimpering during load-in/set-up….hauling metal artwork ain’t for the weak of heart.)

A couple months ago, it looked like the traditional after-Thanksgiving art fest would not happen in Corrales this year. Then a group of determined volunteers got the ball rolling, found a new venue and tah-da! The show would go on!

This year, rather than the big tent by the Rec Center, the Corrales Holiday Art Fest, renamed “Corrales Starving Artist Holiday Art Sale,” took place at the Senior Center and nearby Community Center.  Friday morning, our small but intrepid group of artists arrived, set up and waited nervously.

We were rewarded with a steady stream of customers. Everyone, artists and customers, loved our cozier, well-lit, and much, much warmer setting.  Visitors were treated to a variety of handmade, high-quality artisan works in many media including glass, metal, wood, mixed-media, photography, encaustic, wood-block printmaking, watercolor, pastel, clay/pottery and of course, jewelry.

My windchimes, as usual, were big sellers, but the big news is that I sold another of my scrap metal clocks, a piece called “The Key to My Heart.” (The first, “The Unbreakable Heart,” was sold a few months ago.) These odd little clocks, made from the bits and pieces of steel scrap, are my personal favorites, and I was glad to see this one go to a good home.

It’s been a great year for Adobe Dragon Design Studio with several commissions, successful Art in the Park shows, our first gallery sales, and of course, this show! Thanks so much to my fellow artists, event organizers, and all the wonderful folks who came out and shopped local.

Looking forward to 2016 and another great year for art in the Corrales and Albuquerque area! Cheers!
